Coldstream Hills prides itself for having access to many of the best vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Back in the late 1980s, James Halliday introduced single vineyard wines to Coldstream Hills demonstrating their unique styles. The tradition has continued with the release of the Single Vineyard range.
At higher altitude and planted in 1994 on grey clay-loam soil, the Coldstream Hills Deer Farm Vineyard in Gladysdale produces charming Pinot Noir wines with sour cherry, hints of blue fruits and chalky tannins. Ethereal and perfumed with notes of muddled strawberries and cranberries, this is a beautifully framed wine.

"Medium to deep red colour with a tint of purple, and a powerfully expressive, spicy, smoky bouquet with a touch of char-oak. The wine is full-bodied, rich and generous, with abundant tannins and a little headiness from raised alcohol. Liberal but not overdone oak. An exotic, full-blooded, hedonistic pinot."
Complex and brooding, with an array of muddled strawberry, cranberry and raspberry fruit characters. Graphite-like mineral notes, spice, and subtle French oak further enhance the wine’s aroma.
Medium-bodied in style with great texture, plushness and length of flavour. Raspberry, muddled strawberry and blueberry characters are underpinned by seamless French oak and graphite-like mineral spice. Complex and layered, the palate is complete with a powdery chalk tannin finish.
Cooler than Bordeaux yet warmer than Burgundy, picturesque Yarra Valley is one of Australia's foremost cool-climate wine regions. An easy one-hour’s drive from Melbourne, the area is home to more than 80 cellar doors. In addition to the huge range of wineries, the area boasts superb contemporary restaurants, authentic rustic farms - and luxury overnight accommodation if the sightseeing gets too much! The fertile Yarra Valley soils produce famously elegant and textured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
A cool start to the growing season was overshadowed by a warm and humid late Spring. Dry conditions prevailed throughout the summer months with gloriously warm days and cool nights. A relatively early start to the season, which was fortunately tempered by an even period of sugar and flavour development.
Growing up in wine country Mildura, at just 13 years of age, Andrew attempted to make his own wine; the end result was undrinkable, his father’s shed a shambles, but the winemaking seed was sown.
After completing a Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of Melbourne, Andrew spent two years at Mildara in Coonawarra before heading to Bordeaux where he furthered his winemaking qualifications with a Diplome National d’Oenologue from the University of Bordeaux. Since then he’s completed vintages at the iconic Chateau Haut Brion in Bordeaux, several vintages in Languedoc, in addition to completing a vintage at Matanzas Creek winery in California’s Sonoma Valley. For six years Andrew was a Winemaker at Lindeman’s Karadoc winery and in 1996, became the Winery Manager of Seppelt in Great Western; providing the perfect segue for his current role as Chief Winemaker Coldstream Hills which he has held since 2001.
