Overview

Overview

Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday and has since grown to become one of Australia's leading and most awarded small wineries. The Reserve selection begins in the vineyard, anchored on the low yielding and mature Estate Blocks. Fermented traditionally in small open pots, judicious us of whole bunches were used in the process to add further complexity and structure.

Taste Description

Taste Description

Nose

Dark cherry and Satsuma plum fruit are complemented by blue-fruit nuances and savoury dried herb notes of whole-bunch spice. Fragrant cedar oak, mineral earthiness and subtle hints of anise and licorice weave through the bouquet, adding depth, complexity and intrigue.

Flavours and Palate

Brooding and restrained, yet with impressive length and power. Layers of dark cherry and raspberry coulis are underpinned by nuances of whole-bunch spice, dried herbs and mineral earthiness. Seamlessly integrated French oak and persistent grainy tannins lend structure and complexity, offering a compelling opportunity for cellaring.

Yarra Valley, Victoria

Cooler than Bordeaux yet warmer than Burgundy, picturesque Yarra Valley is one of Australia's foremost cool-climate wine regions. An easy one-hour’s drive from Melbourne, the area is home to more than 80 cellar doors. In addition to the huge range of wineries, the area boasts superb contemporary restaurants, authentic rustic farms - and luxury overnight accommodation if the sightseeing gets too much! The fertile Yarra Valley soils produce famously elegant and textured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Vintage Conditions

A warm start to the growing season with below average rainfall which continued through into the summer months. Temperatures remained consistently above average leading to one of the earliest harvests in recent times. The wines produced reflect the season with generosity and depth of flavour.
